Counterfeit goods found in Raided shop

Trade Standards officers raided the shop in the mail, Fore Street, Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed trendy Ugg boots and brand-name trainers and jeans worth thousands of pounds were recovered.

It allows local police to act, supports the commercial standards for conducting searches of premises.

A spokesman for Inverclyde Council said: “We can confirm officers attended a premises in Port Glasgow along with Strathclyde Police and a quantity of goods were seized.

“Investigations are ongoing and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

A police spokesman said: “We can confirm we assisted Trading Standards in connection with the sale of counterfeit goods in Port Glasgow.

“They requested our assistance with a large quantity of trade-name goods and we believe inquiries are ongoing to determine the authenticity of the goods.”

• The local raid coincides with a huge UK-wide police operation which shut down 1,200 websites that were claiming to sell cut-price designer gear – including Ugg boots.

Customers who buy from the sites either receive nothing, counterfeit goods or have their credit card details stolen.

In the past 12 months, complaints about fake Ugg boots uk have tripled and Customs officers have seized more than 20,000 pairs of boots.
