Trade Standards officers raided the shop in the mail, Fore Street, Wednesday afternoon.
It is believed trendy Ugg boots and brand-name trainers and jeans worth thousands of pounds were recovered.
It allows local police to act, supports the commercial standards for conducting searches of premises.
A spokesman for Inverclyde Council said: "We can confirm officers attended a premises in Port Glasgow along with Strathclyde Police and a quantity of goods were seized.
"Investigations are ongoing and it would be inappropriate to comment further."

Shoppers are being warned to steer clear of buying fake Christmas gifts after council officers seized bogus GHD hair straighteners and hair dryers.
The counterfeit goods were confiscated at the Bonzer Boot Sale in Romford by Trading Standards officers.
Similar fake hair straighteners seized last year were found to pose a risk of fire and could give users an electric shock.

Ugg Australia is kicking off its seventh annual Art & Sole auction on Dec. 1.
This year marks the first time the brand, owned by Goleta, Calif.-based Deckers Outdoor Corp., will be collaborating with footwear designers and luxury fashion brands for one-of-a-kind boots.
Designers include Manolo Blahnik, Betsey Johnson, Giuseppe Zanotti, Carlos Falchi and Rafe Totengco.
The auction will run Dec. 1-14 on the brand's Website, Uggaustralia.com. All proceeds from the event will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This is the fifth year the hospital has been the recipient of proceeds, with more than $315,000 donated to date.
